What DSA Does Right in NYC
Events create community and ensure bad ideas are supported
A collection of resentful artists, communists and social justice warriors with limited job options, the DSA represents the downwardly mobile rich kids of New York. Even with the lack of financial prospects beyond professional protestor or NGO hire, the community grows and continues to gain political power. Here’s a breakdown of what they get right and why many youths are attracted to their empty promise of a workless future where the government has fun control and the individual has none.
Tackle Loneliness: In NYC, the Democratic Socialists are hosting nearly 100 events per month mixing meet-ups, sports watching, education on communism, political activism and canvasing. With so many young people feeling disconnected and lonely this strategy works, providing people new to the city and living off of parental support a place to make friends and feel connected to something bigger. Tying political ideology to a friend group greatly strengthens the DSA’s power and ability to get somewhat normal people believe things like “the Jews control America” and “communism takes people out of poverty”.
Anti-Capitalist: Membership mainly made up of 85% white transplants who are new to the city. They are anti-capitalist and haven’t had to build anything themselves, which increases resentment towards those who’ve been able to succeed. The DSA is a welcome home for failed artists, who haven’t been able to figure out how to create anything worth purchasing, which often leads to resentment of those more successful. Being told for years they are better than others, they are attracted to an ideology that places blame on others for their lack of success.
Regular protests around pro-communism initiatives
Earworm Messaging: They run on promises with no plan and have mastered 3-word slogans. They speak to youth who feel there is no opportunity and best option is to take from the rich. Slogans like “Tax the Rich” or “Medicare for All” are easy to repeat without having to provide a way to get there. They are also easy to defend as morally superior, which allows those who say it to claim anyone who doesn’t support is evil or corrupt. By focusing on these slogans they can divert attention on their own funding, which tends to come from dark money networks with anti-West intentions.
Deep Dark Pockets: The DSA currently has 120,000 paying members with investments from groups like CAIR, suspected ties to the CCP, the Muslim Brotherhood and anti-American/Israel groups. They promise revolution, which inspires hope, but it’s based on failed economic policies and empty promises. This allows members to claim no accountability for how their actions negatively impact others, as they are working to dismantle our existing system and have no proof of how their version of America works.
Cultish Programming: The DSA has mastered cult-like or religious programming. They have identified a common enemy: the rich, Christian nationalists, “zionists”, political establishment, “empire” and they will often use any failures in politics or American foreign policy as a way to magnify their oppressor versus oppressed narrative. By focusing on others in this way, they prevent members from recognizing the atrocities of communist regimes and islamic dictatorships. They choose groups which are small enough to outnumber and use their strong ties to Islamo-terrrorist groups, which they reframe as “resistance fighters” to divert negative criticism of their policies or hateful beliefs.
Candidate Casting: Rather than wait for candidates, they cast, finding the person who best fits their organizations goals. They then get the machine behind them online and with canvasing make people into recognizable names. By recruiting candidates and having them agree to all their policies, they only need to find a face, rather than strong politicians with accomplishments. They don’t base choices on merit, instead focusing on who looks best for a position.
Social Savvy: They know how to activate through social media with billions of views to make their fringe beliefs seem popular. Bot farms and clipping are used to defend their most idiotic positions. DSA members will defend candidates, antisemitism, christophobia and anti-American ideals as part of feeling connected to the group. DSA is more than a political party. It’s a community where an attack on one, feels like an attack on all, so they always have thousands of people online ready to defend. We’ve seen this best presented with Zohran Mamdani, who is regularly praised by DSA members for doing the basic functions of a Mayor, but never criticized for his antisemetic remarks which have resulted in spikes in attacks against Jews of NYC.
