How Teen Takeovers were created by Open Border policies
This isn’t a story about “bad kids.” It’s about what happens when a generation of teens are locked out of adulthood.

For years, “teen takeovers” were dismissed as harmless chaos, kids gathering in malls, beaches, downtown districts, or parks for viral social media moments. But across America, the trend has evolved into something darker and much more dangerous: riots, robberies, shootings, stabbings, and multiple shoot outs and deaths tied to massive unsupervised youth gatherings.
Cities from Chicago to Washington, Jacksonville, New York City, Rochester, Atlanta, and Milwaukee have struggled with increasingly violent gatherings where hundreds, sometimes thousands, of teenagers flood public spaces, overwhelm police, fight, loot, assault people, destroy public property, and scatter before authorities can regain control.
Promotion for teen takeover in Florida
The violence attached to these events is no longer hypothetical.
In Rhode Island, three people were stabbed during a beach “teen takeover” as crowds of teenagers overwhelmed towns ahead of Memorial Day weekend.
In Washington, D.C., federal officials warned of escalating “teen takeover” violence after masked teens stormed a Chipotle, terrifying families trapped inside.
In Jacksonville, multiple teenagers were shot after one of the gatherings spiraled into chaos.
In Utah, a 16-year-old opened fire during a crowded festival gathering, killing three people, including an infant.
Chicago, one of the earliest cities associated with the phenomenon, has repeatedly battled downtown takeovers involving robberies, mob beatings, shootings, and large-scale vandalism.
The result is a dangerous mix of social media clout-chasing, economic frustration, weak policing, collapsing youth opportunity, and a generation growing up disconnected from traditional pathways into adulthood.

What was once called “hanging out” now regularly ends with ambulances, mass arrests, smashed storefronts, and grieving families.
But this story isn’t about “bad kids.”
It’s what happens when an entire generation of teens are locked out of the first rung of adulthood. It’s what happens when work opportunities which traditionally lead to responsibility and independence are taken by cheap labor from other countries.
During the Biden-era migration surge, an estimated 20 million new workers entered an economy already thinning out entry-level work through automation, gig apps, and corporate cost-cutting.
U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says foreign-born workers made up 19.1% of the U.S. civilian labor force in 2025, and they were more concentrated than native-born workers in service, construction, maintenance, production, transportation, and material-moving jobs, exactly the kinds of jobs that used to give teenagers their first paycheck.

The labor market got flooded at the bottom, where young Black, Latino, and White kids are already competing for cashier shifts, restaurant work, warehouse hours, delivery jobs, landscaping gigs, and summer jobs.
Even Bernie Sanders, the self proclaimed voice for the working class, in a 2015 interview called open borders “a Koch brothers proposal,” arguing it would help right-wing billionaires flood the country with cheap labor and depress wages.
In December 2015, teen unemployment for ages 16–19 was 16.2% with Black teen unemployment averaging around 9-10% and Hispanic teen unemployment at 6-7%
Reuters recently reported that Black teen unemployment exploded to 30.7% in November 2025, the highest level since the pandemic era. Hispanic teen unemployment rose to 16%, with males feeling the impact most.

The rise in that unemployment is directly tied to "teen takeovers” which now paint many of our youths as violent, unruly hooligans set to destroy society.
Mass migration, cheap labor, weakened schools, soft consequences, and no starter-job pipeline created a generation with too much free time, too little structure, and no clear path into adulthood.
Teen takeovers have become the ugly public symptom of a open border’s economic failure. When employers suddenly gain access to a massive pool of desperate low-wage labor willing to work longer hours for less pay, teenagers, especially Black and Latino teenagers with little work history become less attractive hires.
That’s where the Bernie Sanders quote becomes politically explosive.
If he knew in 2015 that open borders would lower wages for everyone and cause mass unemployment, why is he now supporting candidates that want to Abolish ICE and keep this cheap labor in our country?
When did a policy of right-wing billionaires become the campaign promise of the Democratic Socialists of America and what benefit does it bring his donors to destroy the future of Black and Hispanic youth?
Under Biden, the Democrats created a labor economy where corporations benefited from cheaper labor, while struggling American-born teenagers, Black, Latino, and White, lost access to the starter jobs that once gave them structure, discipline, spending money, and work experience.
The result isn’t just economic frustration.
It’s social decay and rot: idle teenagers, fewer pathways into adulthood, collapsing opportunity, and public displays of disorder that eventually erupts in the form of street chaos, flash mobs, teen takeovers and families burying their loved ones in the aftermath.
